About Us
Virtual Console Reviews is your one-stop resource for all things Virtual Console related. Since the site's creation in November 2006 to coincide with the North American launch of the Wii we've gone from strength to strength and have gone on to become arguably the world's favourite VC news and reviews resource on the web.
Our aim is to give you detailed reviews for ALL North American and European Virtual Console releases, with easy to read text and clear score markings to ensure that your next VC download is one you're going to enjoy. We also intend to bring you the very best in news reporting from the world of the Virtual Console.
In 2008 the site was relaunched with the support of Cuttlefish Multimedia, a UK based web development company, and also the guys behind NintendoLife.com. With this new found support everyone involved is committed to making Virtual Console Reviews the number one resource on the internet for both Virtual Console and WiiWare information.
The Team
Darren "Dazza" Calvert (Editor / Reviewer)
In his professional career as an Internet consultant Darren took his chance to combine his love of gaming with his intimate knowledge of all things technical in order to create VC-Reviews in 2006. His love of videogames began with a misspent childhood playing the ZX Spectrum and continued all the way through the 8-bit and 16-bit era.
Damien "Damo" McFerran (Editor / Reviewer)
Damien is a professionally published freelance writer and is a regular contributor to UK magazines GamesTM and Retro Gamer, as well writing for several leading gaming websites. Irrespective of this, he still has trouble spelling even the most basic of words, which goes to show they really will print anything these days.
Marcel "Drake" Van Duyn (Reviewer)
Marcel joined the site staff in the middle of 2007 and has become an indispensable component in the VCR machinery. His passion for all things Nintendo knows no bounds and his collection is one of the biggest in Europe! As well as contributing reviews, Marcel is also our roving reporter and whenever there's a VC update he's bound to give first-class reporting on it. He hails from the Netherlands, but don't hold that against him.
Kelvin Green (Reviewer)
Mild-mannered office worker Kelvin started gaming on the Acorn Electron, and has been a videogame nut ever since. He has a favourite game on each of the umpteen systems he's owned, but he reckons that platforms don't get much better than the SNES and Commodore 64. Rumours that he was in the audience of a Dexter Fletcher-era episode of GamesMaster have yet to be substantiated.
Dion Guy (Reviewer)
Weaned on a diet of ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64 games, Dion's devotion to the 8-bit era knows no bounds. Despite subsequent flings with the Atari ST and Amiga, his heart has never strayed far from the wonders of cassette loading and dodgy collision detection. Don't ask him which is the better system though - the memories of bitter playground disputes still play on his mind.
Tamra Ross (Proofing)
Tamra lends a hand with editing and proofing all our reviews. She has a fun time correcting all our schoolboy grammatical errors and helps us immensely in keeping the standards up. Despite an early infatuation with the ColecoVision, Tamra's been a die-hard PC gamer - that is, until the VC got all of the arcade classics that lured her out of too many high school classes!
Anthony "pHaT-aNt_" Dickens (Design / Code)
Ant is a web application developer by trade and is the guy responsible for all of the Web 2.0 architecture which defines the shiny 'new look' VC-Reviews. Darren was only too happy to admit defeat and retire his ropey RSS feeds when Ant expressed an interest in dragging us out of the dark ages.
