Good grief, is it really the weekend again? Bonkers.
It's also September, which means that 2024 will be here in the blink of an eye. Before we all wallow in existential despair, however, let's take a look back at what went on this week in the world of the Switch.
The biggest event this week was undoubtedly the Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct showcase. We learned a great deal about the upcoming 2D platformer, including what new power-ups are in store for us, why Miyamoto wasn't keen on the elephant design, and what 'online play' looks like for the new title.
Elsewhere, Sabotage Studio's Sea of Stars managed to sell an incredible 100K+ copies on its first day of sale, while we pondered the very real prospect of Mario and Sonic going head-to-head later this year. We also learned that Konami's Suikoden I & II HD Remaster got delayed in 2024, and Nintendo announced that Nintendo Live will be heading to Tokyo in 2024.
For now, let's see what Team Nintendo Life is up to this weekend, shall we?
Ollie Reynolds, Staff Writer
I'm afraid there's not a great deal I'm playing at the moment, dear friends. I finished Alan Wake Remastered, and so I'm in a bit of limbo at the moment while I wait for Starfield to drop on GamePass (there's no way I'm paying for the privilege of early access). I might dive into a bit of Aria of Sorrow via the Castlevania Advance Collection; it's the equivalent of comfort food for me, so it'll tide me over for the time being.
Alana Hagues, Deputy Editor
My weekend gaming will largely be spent with Sea of Stars, which I'm having a wonderful time with so far. The world and dungeon design tick all of my boxes, and I'm delighted this is living up to my expectations.
I've almost finished Virtue's Last Reward, so I'm looking for something else to hop into — although Zero Time Dilemma's pull may be too strong. Since the bug has bitten (though it's always biting), I might dive into some actual retro RPG action and start Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete. Two RPGs at once? Am I mad, you say? Yes.
Jim Norman, Staff Writer
It's looking like a big weekend of games for ol' Jim. I started Sea of Stars on release day last week and good grief it really is a beauty, huh? If I can throw a couple more hours into that over the next couple of days, I will be a very happy boy indeed.
Apart from that, it will be back to the sewers for the TMNT: Shredder's Revenge DLC. I think it will take a little time to build that muscle memory back up, but I am so very excited to dive into this one — totally tubular, man!
Oh, and some Vampire Survivors on the side, probably... (definitely)...
Gavin Lane, Editor
Gotta be honest, I’m pretty zonked after a busy week, so I’m looking for something engaging but not taxing this weekend. I downloaded the Star Trek: TNG table for Pinball FX the moment I heard it had dropped and it’s a perfect little diversion – one that’s saved me from the time sucker that is Vampire Survivors.
I’m also eager to continue my way through Sea of Stars. Garl has already become a firm favourite and I’m intrigued to see where the story takes him after the first couple of hours. Enjoy your gaming, everyone.

While I am waiting for my copy of Blasphemous 2 to arrive, I will be playing:
1. Blasphemous 1 - on my way to the Lady of the Charred Visage.
2. Elden Ring - I want to play a mage this time!
3. Castlevania 64 - I will try to advance into the Castle.
Happy gaming!!!
I am now 35 hours in to Vampire Survivors. At first, I thought that it would get boring after a couple of hours, but some of the later stages are more interesting, and the game really starts to show more of itself if you decide to try and 100% it. Very highly recommended, particularly considering the very low price! Have a great weekend, guys, and please take great care of yourselves and those around you!
Drizzle Season Splatoon 3 for me.
And I want to go Lynel hunting on Tears of the Kingdom.
I’m about to fight Ganondorf but not before fusing some powerful weapons.
Just finished Haiku The Robot after my physical copy arrived, absolutely loved it.
100% it and I look forward to trying corrupt mode.
Will go back to Phoenotopia Awakening since I took a break to play Haiku.
My Axiom Verge 2 Collectors Edition has been shipped from LRG so I can't wait to finally play that.
Pick up Elderand next Friday so I'm in Metroidvania heaven atm.
Have a great weekend everyone.
Today I'm seeing my friends, but I'm not sure what videogames we will play, most likely some Mario Kart but I'll also bring the new Samba de Amigo in case they feel like trying it.
Tomorrow my sister, her boyfriend and I might try the Mewtwo Tera Raid, but other than that I'll continue with my schedule of alternating between Tears of the Kingdom (found all Misko’s treasures and finally tackled the Fire Temple, all Towers, all Tears, 2 Temples, 58 Shrines, 21 Lightroots and 92 Koroks down), Persona 5 (defeated the sixth Palace boss and did the first infiltration of the seventh one), Engage (did Chapter 17, 17 Chapters, 8 Paralogues, all Divine Paralogues and all Fell Xenologue down), Scarlet (defeated the Psychic Gym Leader, 7 Gyms, 4 Titans and 3 Team Stars down), Advance Wars (did two missions of the first campaign and will continue with that until I complete it, first campaign final rank A, 11+1 S, 7+1 A, 4 B and 2 C ranks - after the + are the ranks of the missions I'm doing after finishing the campaign) and Pikmin 4 (days 12 and 13, first area 100% and 3, second 70% and 1 for day and night expeditions respectively)!
Just finished postgame of cassette beasts today. Surely gotta play hi-fi rush this weekend, I'll be playing some game pass games until pokemon dlc and ak-xolotl release. I'm really tempted for sea of stars, but surely I'll wait for switch physical edition coming next year.
Happy gaming everyone!
Definitely some Splatoon 3 for me! (Drizzle Season just dropped and of course it’s Big Run this weekend!) I’ll also try to get started on LEGO Star Wars on Sunday evening, since that has a co-op mode I can do with my younger siblings. And lastly I’ll be getting in some platforming with INK to close out the weekend!
SWITCH
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - still playing this, and probably will for years to come! I just like running around and grabbing Koroks.
Monster Hunter Rise - I'm going to try this one out this weekend, heard nothing but good things about it from friends and reviews online!
3DS
Pokemon Crystal - starting my gen 2 playthrough this weekend!
PS5
Nothing here this weekend and possibly never again because of the ridiculous price hike.
PC
Garry's Mod - multiplayer with friends later tonight!
Have a good weekend everyone!
I've started over in TOTK due to update 1.2.whatever taking away my favorite thing in the game- the ability to break off elevator railings to adjust my aircraft, then see how the change flies. So I'm on version 1.0 and have to use the cartridge and now have autoupdates turned OFF! I just got back to the right leg depot and I have my precious railings again, whew.
Also will be playing Rocket League tons, like always. Have also been enjoying Cosmo Dreamer, Mario Maker 2, Mario Golf Super Rush, Samba de Amigo party central, Marble It Up ultra, and Psychonauts 2 (on laptop).
Playing elden ring on ps5 and zelda oracles of age, megaman zero 1, chrono trigger, and lufia 2 on my analogue pocket. Man I think it will be really cool if nintendo officially made this, with full support of buying gb/gba/gbc/nes/snes from nintendo store 😃
Splatoon 3 for Big Run and playing the new maps more but also a bit of MK8 Deluxe. Much like last week, Nintendo Direct season is rapidly approaching so I'm not starting my next single player game just yet.
SMB Wonder being playable at Nintendo Live strongly suggests that the SMB Wonder Direct a few days ago has absolutely no impact on whether there's a general Direct in September.
Probably beating Shadow Gambit this weekend. Great game, a shame the studio is closing but at least they revived the stealth-strategy genre with shadow tactics, desperados 3 and shadow gambit.
Hopefully someone else picks up the torch
Other than that maybe continue Tunic with a friend that had never played it before. I'm just amazed by how great that game still is on my third playthrough
I did start out Sea of Stars since I was at a convenient spot where I had just finished my last big playthrough, around 8 hours in now. It's okay but hardly amazing, the writing in particular is pretty atrocious.
PS5 - Bomb Rush Cyberfunk
Switch - Graze Counter GM
I finished Ys VIII a few days ago.
I wanted to play something else before digging into Ys IX straight away. I still haven't done the Xenoblade 3 DLC yet. I just finished buying and installing it, so I guess I could play through this this weekened.
Unfortunately I had to drop Zelda: Spirit Tracks - I'm trying to be a completist but I just find the DS zelda games to be tedious.
In other Zelda completionist news, I'm playing Twilight Princess HD for the first time - I'm pretty early on and in the Forest Temple. I can see why people regard this game so highly, and it's amazing that if my wife wants the TV I can just press select and play on the gamepad.
When I have some shorter gaming slots I will continue with The Messenger. This game is getting better as it goes, and the controls are just so tight and responsive that you feel like you're one with the character.
Oh and my wife and I have been playing through a day of Pikmin 3 each night. It's a great ritual - she's not really a gamer but has really warmed to Pikmin. Similar to my daughters she throws the controller at me when she gets to a boss.
Finally finished TotK so now I’ve moved onto getting through some of my backlog. Playing Nier Automata on Switch first, played it way back on PS4 but only saw the end of the 2B campaign so I’m determined to get through the other runs and see the story in full. Easily one of the most impressive Switch ports too, still find it unbelievable they got it running and looking as good as it does
Going to continue with TOTK, just doing my missions to find the fifth sage.
Also currently doing a few Tera Raids in Scarlet, being happy I finally got Mewtwo.
I cashed in a ton of Microsoft rewards points to buy eShop credit. With current sales and interests, I picked up Sea of Stars, Chained Echoes, Lost in Random, Carrion & the Bioshock Trilogy. A nice selection of RPGs and adventure types for an upcoming vacation. I’m still chipping my way through Lego Star Wars, which seems to be the title I needed to recover from ‘100 hr RPG/adventure’ burnout. A nice no-pressure collectathon. 🙂
Still TotK, still Pikmin 4.
Besides that I’ll play Ultimate Chicken Horse with my siblings-in-law if they come round
Splatoon 3 to get the ball rolling on that catalog.
Shredder's Revenge: Dimension Shellshock DLC, which is super addictive.
Mega Man Zero and The Messenger.
@Manguy888A sorry about ST. I really love that one because of Zelda’s character and role in the adventure. Kind of understand where you’re coming from but it’s miles ahead of PH imo
Incidentally, which haven’t you completed yet?
This weekend I'll be continuing my playthrough of Raincode: Master Detective on Switch and Jedi: Survivor on the Series X while I'm waiting for the official release of Starfield in the coming week.
So far, Raincode has not grabbed my attention as much as I hoped it would. Any tips on when it gets good?
Anyway, happy gaming everyone!
Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope and Gran Turismo 7. Sparks Of Hope is a really cool game. Hopefully it sells good enough, so Ubisoft decides to make more playful games.
Happy gaming everyone!
Megadimension Neptunia VII ❤️
After dropping a couple of games last week (Crosscode and Under Dungeon), I need a better fresh start for this weekend. I'm still hooked on Vampire Survivors, I may play some more Keywe with my wife, and I have an assortment of small arcade titles I may jump into. But if I'm looking for something a bit more substantial, I may play Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, or even Quake 64 in the Quake 2 Remaster (since I know that will be a safe bet).
I've been looking forward to playing 13 Sentinels for ages (love me some some Vanillaware), and now that it's 70% off its on.
Tears of the kingdom
Going to be playing Sea of Stars this weekend on PS5, 6 hours in so far and what a charming game. You can tell this was a passion project for the developers with how good it looks, the music and the personality the characters have. Should be done before Eternights, Pokemon SV DLC and Baten Kaitos all drop in the next 10-13 days. Been hearing plenty of good things about Armored Core 6 too but not sure if it would fully be my thing, if only it had a demo
There's still much to discover in Links Awakening 👍🔥 As next probably Tears of Kingdom, slowly from the beginning once again. Giving second chance overall
Sea of Stars on Stray on the Series S.
Midtown Madness on original Xbox.
Samba De Amigo on Switch.
Happy Big Run! Um'ami Ruins is a little trickier Big Run map in Splatoon 3 than the last time with Undertow Spillway. Having to get back onto the central platform repeatedly sounds simple but it's a little more work than you'd think with all the egg throwing and ink consumption. I still like it though. I knew Um'ami would be a Big Run map someday the moment I first played there when it came out back in March.
I don't have that much time this weekend but I'll still try to play Big Run some more so I can help rack up conch shells and get more scales. I've made fantastic progress for Team Shiver in the Sneak Peek by already reaching Level 10 of the catalog and getting the Deepest Cut emote. It looks fresher than I thought!
Civilization VI
The new update, despite being unable to redeem it for free yet even though I should be able to, made me boot the game up again. I tend to always start a random map with random leader but this time I decided to try one of the premade scenarios while I wait for them to fix the leader pass.
I started the map where you play as Alexander yesterday and finished it couple of hours ago. Combat has always been my weakest point so I never go for the domination victory condition. This was a nice change of pace and I feel more confident in my combat abilities now. Though it remains to be seen how well they translate since you don't need to pay attention to anything else in the scenario and don't suffer the penalties.
OlliOlli2: Welcome to Olliwood
Still quite rusty compared to how I fared at the end of the first game back when I played it. Aiming for perfect combos is as fun as ever.
Samurai Shodown (2019)
I don't mention it too often but I tend to play fighting games with my friend on the weekends. Taking a break from KoF15 and playing SamSho this weekend instead.
Fired up Diablo III this week, and it’s diabolically compelling. The dripfeed of new abilities is great, the numbers keep going up and the campaign mode is surprisingly robust in story. Having a ball.
Celebrating 14 years together with my wife, so won't be playing much today.
Am currently still in my playthrough of God Wars the Complete Legend.
My line up for this weekend features:
Kirby Planet Robobot
Persona 5 Royal
Mario Party Superstars
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
@Dark_Isatari I basically didn't play video games between Gamecube and Switch, so to get caught up I have Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, the DS games and Minish Cap. I already played link between worlds (LOVED IT). I've also never beaten Majora's Mask though I've tried several times. I just find it very difficult, and regularly get lost in the main town even though I've started the game half a dozen times. I'll get thru it someday though.
I'll be continuing with Trails to Azure, made it to the final chapter. There were a number of twists that actually surprised me. Past that I'll be playing Shredder's Revenge: Dimension Shellshock, the survival mode is kicking my butt though it is a fun challenge.
Ollie, if you're supporting anti-consumer-pass, you're not a gamer. Starfield has already proven to be a bomb (which nobody should be surprised with) so it's best to skip it and immediately cancel your anti-consumer-pass subscription. No gamer supports that service.
I beat Ace Attorney: Phoenix Wright this week and I’m currently halfway through Ace Attorney: Justice for All.
Gonna play A Short Hike before starting Starfield on Wednesday.
Switch
Vampire Survivors I have 190/190 achievements on Steam. On Switch it´s only 137 achievements i see...but i´ll make them all.
Steam
Slay the Spire trying to make ascencion 18-19-20 (ironclaw). I have the other characters ascencion 20...and this game deserve 100%.
Guilty Gear Strive fighting ranked in top level.
Forza Horizon 4 This game is just perfect. Its on my TOP-3 all time. And i play games since 1981.
After completing Ender Lilies with New Game + (this game is a masterpiece, one of the best Metroidvania I've ever played), I am playing Harvestella for at least 50 hours and am still in chapter 3, but I am really enjoying this game. Actually, this is rather a classical RPG similar to SNES' Final Fantasy and Squaresoft games (there is an emphasis on story, characters' personality, and dungeon exploration than a farming RPG (farming is just a small part of the game). It also reminds me Persona 3 or Shenmue because we have to organize our (real) time until night when we have to go to home and sleep, I am doing many quests that are very well written, with very good characters with them we build evolutive relationship (that have an influence on statistics in battle). Besides, this game is pretty and music is wonderful. A very relaxing game (even the "dead season" is somewhat mystical, its atmosphere is fascinating).
And this game is also excellent for my Japanese, because there are A LOT OF THINGS to read (many, many dialogs) with several unknown Chinese characters that are not "usual" (not taught at Japanese school).
Finally took the sanity-retaining step of uninstalling Yakuza 0 rather than sinking any more time into its ludicrous amount of sidegames, took my first few steps into Yakuza Kiwami. Somehow still haven't managed to finish Breath of the Wild after discovering several more mountains I just had to climb in Hyrule, and revisited Danganronpa v3 just over a year after leaving it half-done to try and polish that off too. Oh, and I also cleared Classic Mode in Smash Ultimate on the highest intensity-something I could never manage on the previous iteration of the game, so a winner is me I guess.
Zelda Oracle of Ages. Near the end I think, and been enjoying it (except for the water dungeon which seemed as awkward to navigate as it’s N64 counterpart).
Might try and play a bit more Spelunky and see if it finally grabs me. I’ve also been tempted by the sale, but still got that backlog (including TOTK and pikmin 4) plus Octopath Traveler to finish, so really trying to resist. Plus my online subscription will renew in a few weeks and I’m considering getting the expansion pass for a year, which would give me a whole load of extra backlog. Tough times!
Well for me is still more Chaos; Head Noah. Working on my seventh ending. But aside from that great visual novel, I got the Shredders Revenge DLC and may play it with my cousin. The dlc is pretty solid and adds a lot of replayability to the game. Also got Sea of Stars, not sure if I want to start this yet though with Chaos Head being my main main focus. Well Happy Gaming everyone.
After finishing TOTK a few weeks ago, I needed a break from gaming. For me, it's the game of a lifetime and I wanted the experience to sink in. I do feel that I'm going to be bit more cautious in how I spend my time on new games from now on. There are no new games that interest me right now.
So I'm tapping into the nostalgia vein and starting Wave Race Blue Storm from scratch. The Gamecube is hooked up to the same CRT television from back in the day. I finished no. 1 on the expert circuit back then and I'm curious how much of my skill remains after 20 years.
Will likely make more progress in Chicory: A Colourful Tale and Aetheris, both on Steam.
Otherwise, it's more Vampire Survivors on Switch.
Nintendo Switch:
Tales of Vesperia REMASTERED – fought with Ragou's "pet animals". In total, ~16 hours in, if I don't confuse.
Guilty Gear XX ΛCore Plus R – Got Path 2 ending in Johnny's and Anji Mito's stories in Story Mode.
BLAZBLUE CENTRALFICTION Special Edition – finished Course D and completed Score Attack mode on Normal difficulty as Yûki Terumi.
Android:
DISTRAINT: Deluxe Edition – completed the game.
DISTRAINT 2 – completed the game.
RETSNOM – finished the last level in World 1 with the plush bunny. Completed World 2's 1st and 2nd levels with the plush bunnies(they are collectable things available on all levels, if I don't confuse).
Well, that's all what I've played... Have a nice gaming week, everyone...
Series X: Starfield Constellation Edition.
Switch: Nothing, obviosly.
PS5: See previous answer.
Just Major's Mask on NSO at the moment. It still holds up so well. Fantastic game. I'm about halfway through, so I'll be playing awhile longer.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
I'm just trying to finally finish Tears of the kingdom before Baten Kaitos 1 and 2 drop which I'm not even sure I'll be able to do.
I’ll be playing Splatoon 3 since I recently got the Inkling Girl and Smallfry amiibo (amazing figurines) and because the salmonoids are rushing into the city. Also may jump into SSBU and Minecraft. Waiting for wonder….
(And Side Order, but that’ll be in a few centuries)
Sea of Stars and Starfield for myself, and some Factorio with the boys. Can't get any better than that 😁
@Late «I don't mention it too often but I tend to play fighting games with my friend on the weekends.»
Lol. Why? There is nothing wrong about playing fighting games. Also, on which platform do you planning to play SAMURAI SPIRITS (2019) on? If on Nintendo Switch, then, in handheld or docked mode? And, how game looks in handheld mode?
This week I finished up Red Dead Redemption on the PS5. It took me about 40 hours to get a 90% completion rate. I’ll more than likely take a break and come back and collect the remaining outfits and treasures I’ve missed along my journey. People can call this a barebones port all they want — the game still looks gorgeous, runs fantastic, and is such a fantastic game narratively. It holds up incredibly well, especially in tone and atmosphere. It’s a masterpiece, and I can’t wait to see where the franchise inevitably goes from here.
My main source of gaming will be focused on Sea of Stars for the PS5. So far, the game is excellent and hits all the right notes for a nostalgic 16-Bit RPG experience, similarly to Chained Echoes last year. Thankfully, this game lives up to my own lofty expectations. It features some of the best pixel art I’ve seen in a game and gorgeous cinematics that is bolstered even more by its charming characters and world. And the soundtrack; my god, it’s amazing. My only real complaint is the lack of a map early on, which is minuscule to begin with. This will be my main priority as I wait for Starfield to release, although I’m tempted to obtain early access by buying the premium addition after reading the rave reviews.
@jolteon23 how is Jedi survivor on the x? I’m waiting on getting that one because I had been hearing the performance wasn’t the best but the game looks amazing.
I’ll be playing thru sea of stars. I’m very early in, I just passed the mist trials and left tge first island. So far this has been a fun little game to play on gamepass. If it keeps the fun up I’ll get it physically for switch.
thats crazy that zero escape vlr reward was mentioned ! I binged that game this week and I started zero time dilemma last night.
On Switch I'm playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. Bought the DLC and enjoying the survival mode and using the new characters in the story. Also been revisiting my favorite game on the system, Metroid Dread, which I haven't played in a while.
PS5 - Tekken 7
Xbox Series X - AEW Fight Forever
Portal Companion Collection. Played through both games normally, now replaying both of them with developer commentary on. I hadn't ever played either until now
Killzone: Mercenary (Vita) - Nearly there with the campaign, but really getting back into Botzone with the bots difficulty cranked to the max.
Contre Jour (Windows Phone) - Beautiful platformer that only gets more challenging as you go along.
I’m playing one of my favorite games, called 3-day weekend! 😆
Lately, it’s only when I have a spare day off like this that I get to really tuck into some games.
Recently I realized I had never put my flatscreen into game mode. The horror! Now that I have, I’ll probably turn on the Egret to enjoy more responsive control in Arkanoid and Rayforce.
Recent deliveries for Switch were GetsuFumaDen, Orbital Bullet, and Sol Cresta Dramatic Edition, so I’ll probably try those out, and get in a run or two of Vampire Survivors. As long as the kids allow it, that is. 😅
Wishing everyone a fun weekend! 🕹👾
@Vyacheslav333 Not in that sense. I meant in context of these articles. It would be kind of redundant to mention that I'm playing KoF every time I comment on one of these articles. Of course there's nothing wrong about playing fighting games.
I have both Switch and Steam version of the game. I originally got it for Switch but I rebought it on Steam once my friend got interested in it. I had to lower the settings quite a bit to even be able to play it on my laptop.
The Switch version is nice though it has long load times. I primarily use my Switch as a handheld and only turn on the TV whenever I have friends over. I haven't played the Switch version in a while but from what I remember, it looked fine on handheld. Perfectly playable by my standards.
Started playing the Messenger on Switch, hopefully later this week I can go and get Sea of Stars on Steam. Other than that, I’ll also be playing Metroid Prime Remastered, which is a phenomenal game.
This weekend i'll be playing
Sea of Stars (PC)
Minecraft Mods (PC)
Animal Crossing New Horizons (NS)
Baldur's Gate 3 (PC)
Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3 for sure, maybe Sea of Stars?
On switch, super Meat Boy and red dead redemption.
On xbox, Sea of stars and the angler while I wait for starfield
games im playing a little bit this weekend
Zelda Skyward Sword
WWE 2K22 online for my Playstation 4. flinally got around to getting a PSN card so im sort of fiddling around with some weekly challenge stuff in My Faction online
then playing around little bit in Trails of Cold Steel 1 for my Playstation 4
PS5- WWE 2K23 and Final Fantasy VII Remake
Switch- TMNT Sherrder’s Revenge and Fire Emblem Engage.
Xbox Series- Street Fighter 6 and King of Fighters 15.
@Late «I meant in context of these articles.»
Ah. Understood.
«It would be kind of redundant to mention that I'm playing KoF every time I comment on one of these articles.»
Splatoon/Minecraft/Zelda players be like: Okay...
«I have both Switch and Steam version of the game. I originally got it for Switch but I rebought it on Steam once my friend got interested in it. I had to lower the settings quite a bit to even be able to play it on my laptop.

Okay. Understood. Thanks for the reply.
I'm muddling my way through P Scarlet. At the end of the three main storylines. It bothers me that the below average game is hanging on my neck like a backlog albatross. I want to get to the system's better rpgs...but I'll have Starfield in a few days.
Sea of Stars on the XSX. Man the game is really good. I hope they are successful with it. i don't see how they won't be with Sony and MS's money already in their pocket and Switch sales climbing.
I'm genrally hitting a lot of the Shredder's Revenge DLC - it's fun!
After the previously mentioned gaming hiatus, I got pretty much this whole week to dive back in before the busier work days begin, and it saw me waltz over a whole range of stuff from the usuals like Xenoblade 3, Isaac and Assassin's Creed 2 to resumed playthroughs like Morrowind, Subnautica and Astral Chain; I also finished the main campaign of Doom 2 (moving on to Doom 64) and even revisited Sin and Punishment on NSO! Whatever I'll actually manage to squeeze in this weekend will be the cherry on top, but it looks to be one delicious cherry in its own right, with more plans from NieR Automata, Saints Row 4, Borderlands 2, Danganronpa and DerQ to more Xeno games across the board, Final Fantasy XIII/XV, HZD, Payback and Mass Effect as well as the newly procured God Wars on Switch and NFS 2015 on PS4. Some may call it a relapse; me, I call it homecoming.😆
On vacation this weekend so mostly no gaming for me. But when my wife falls asleep… it’s Signalis time
Lax Saturday (which means I'll do a small house project I've put off), pseudo busy Sunday. Still, this is the most laid back weekend I'll have this month. Crazy, huh?
Happy gaming!
More Tears. Was away for a week and feel like I’m wrapping up now, shrine hunting, lightroots and found a reason to collect flint! But then as soon as I think I’m wrapping up more side quests appear! 230 hours in…
I'm still mopping up events in Forza Motorsport 3. At this rate I might finish before the new game comes out.
On Switch, I played through Ralph and the Blue Ball. It's short, simple and a bit frustrating at times. But I absolutely support the idea of making a game just to show how awesome your dog is!
Sea of Stars and Splatoon 3!
Skyrim and TotK.
Continue the marathon to complete my backlog after TOTK.
Since then I have finished:
And now I am on the middle of my first Metroid Dread playthrough. Great game but I know it is a very short one.
Still haven't decided which one comes next
Still working away at Zelda OOT on our 2DS that I restarted last week.
I've made it to the magic beans . . . which is the farthest I've been in the game for all the times I've played this game over the years! LOL.
Also, this week is back-to-school week (Canada), so with my kids going back to school . . . and all the homework they'll be doing . . . maybe I can actually get my hands on our Switch again to try to finish off Super Mario Odyssey! LOL.
Happy gaming everyone!
Finished up Death’s Door. Fantastic game! I’ll definitely be dipping into Vampire Survivors, and will start deciding what to play next. I may keep going with GRIS, but I may also start Dredge. Too many games to decide! Happy gaming everyone!
Mostly going to be playing the new DLC for TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge. I also will be playing The Messenger and Persona 5 Strikers while I don’t have classes this Monday.
Very tempted by sea of stars but trying to resist because too busy right now. I may fail.
I see Tears of the Kingdom got bumped to second in the poll again. I wonder if it will jump back to first again or of its reign has finally ended. 🤔
This week I will be mostly playing
Metal Gear: Ghost Babel
Kirby Air Ride
I have kind of a busy weekend, so probably not much gaming for me, unfortunately. When I'm free I'm probably going to try and sneak in some Octopath Traveler II and see if I can get some grinding in. Almost done with my initial four traveler's stories (Partitio, Angea, Hikari, Castii) so I'm excited to finally be moving on to the other four somewhat soon.
I've been on Tunic for a week. As much as I enjoy the exploration/manual mechanic, I do absolutely hate every single boss encounter. They're all so big and fast while the fox is so small and slow. I wonder if I missed a couple pages but am since 2h trying to beat the scavenger boss. The best I did was dying when he had half 1/4 of life left. I will get him, but man is this tedious.
I noted in a couple of reviews the difficulty being compared to Dark Souls (which I never played and almost ordered the remaster on Switch). Is that it then, ennemies are always faster than you and your moves are queued up (unlike in Bayonetta for example where dodge breaks any combo/attack to have priority)?
So that's a bit disappointing, otherwise playing fun games like MK8 and Hatsune Miku.
Really looking forward to the TNMT DLC too, took my kid to see the film today and we both found it entertaining.
Happy gaming, happy weekend!!
Still playing Tears of the Kingdom but now I just can't be playing only it, so I'm also playing Picross S Genesis and Master System (awesomely addicting) and replaying Resident Evil 3 Remake
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe on Switch, most likely. It’s been a while since I beat the game, I never finished the Luigi mode and I need something to tide me over for Wonder.
I’ll be playing some Big Run in Splatoon 3! It’s weird to think in one week we’ll be celebrating the game’s 1st anniversary with a Splatfest
Tears of the Kingdom: Coming back to this after a prolonged break (due to wrapping up Pikmin 4 and Advance Wars). I just got the last lightroot, and am unsure whether or not I want to hunt down the last 9 shrines. I feel like I ought to at this point? Maybe I'll decide after I finish the fish palace.
Bombrush Cyberfunk: I've been snatched by the music, but I'm just bad enough at the game that I'm worried I won't be making it very far lol
Inkbound (PC): I've been enjoying playing this early access, strategic, turn-based roguelite with my brothers in co-op. If those words turn you on rather than off, I recommend you give it a look!
Starfield (XSX): Maybe? My brother got the OST and bonus early access, so I might start it up. But I might also wait until I've finished Zelda.
It seems impossible to get through any or all of these by the time Baten Kaitos comes out, but I'll try my best!
I had a rather stressful week so I'm really looking forward to relaxing on this 3 day weekend
I'm about 15 hours into Final Fantasy XIII-2. I think I might be able to finish it this weekend. I have to say I'm really surprised at how much I enjoyed the game. I liked the original game but I do think this one is a step up for the most part.
I'm finishing TOTK this weekend (well, my definition of finishing the game).
@BodkinDQ congratulations! I wish you both well!
After finishing TotK last week, I bopped around with Rocket League, Marble it up. Now I am going back to finish Sakuna, rice and ruin, which I paused to play TotK. Sakuna is a great game.
Happy gaming everyone!
Wow I'm late, I forgot about this article today, that week just went nowhere. I'm playing cat cafe' manager as well as Renegade Platinum.
@Manguy888A
Well I’m interested in your thoughts on those games coming from the post BotW era
@TYRANACLES it runs just fine for me. It is indeed absolutely stunning. I think I have it on graphics mode. Of course there's the rare glitch where it doesn't run as smooth, but nothing too out there. Highly recommend the game!
@jolteon23 thanks for that. I for sure want to get my mitts on it!
I'm going to be playing Sea of Stars for most of my 9-day vacation from work. I'm only about 3 hours in so far, but the game's been a blast, and really brings you back to your childhood, if you are around during that era. And like the many reviews that I read, I agree with the fact that the characters are immediately likable, which gets you more involved in the storyline, and the game you are playing. And I get to play it as part of my subscription on PlayStation Plus on my PlayStation 5.
I finally finished Bomb Rush Cyberpunk so I'm going back to Tears of the Kingdom and try to finish that.
I'm finally getting into Shin Megami Tensei V. I've had it on the shelf for like a year and a half now since I bought it fairly soon after launch. The demon fusion system is starting to click with me and the exploration has only gotten better with every new area.
I think in terms of gameplay it's probably my favorite turn based battle system that I've played. There are clever ways for you to get extra turns, but there's also the risk of potentially losing turns if you use an elemental attack that the enemy can block or absorb.
So far it's a game that just gets better and better the more I play it!
After last weeks not so busy week it feels oddly refreshing to have a huge week to follow it up. Two big main games of the weekend are gonna be Zelda Tears of the Kingdom and Baldurs Gate III. Yep I got that early access PS5 version so I’m looking to dive into the years top rated game alongside the previous holder of that title. But that doesn’t mean other games ain’t getting love. On rotation this week is probably the most amount of titles I’ve ever done. We’ve got Zelda, Pikmin 4, Fire Emblem Engage: Fell Xenologue, Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed, Disney Illusion Island,, and of course Splatoon 3 and the 1 year Anniversary Splatfest. Y’all already know I’m going Team Shiver for it. Over on the PS5 a more modest rotation of Baldurs Gate III, Tchia, Sea of Stars, FFXVI, and hopefully finishing up RE6. Gonna try catching up on the anime again this week so we’re at least one week behind. Summer has definitely been a weaker season. The anime this weekend of course being Atelier Ryza, My Tiny Senpai, Ayaka and Liar Liar. Special music shoutout this week to the new Jujutsu Kaisen intro Specialz. It’s so good. Shibuya Incident Arc is here bois WE ROLL. And Podcasts of course Into the Aether, Castle Superbeast, Big Think Dimension, Remap Radio and Fire Escape. Hope everyone has a awesome weekend and Happy Gaming to all as always.
Ever since my Steam Deck arrived on Monday, I've been on it nonstop. Downloading games from the Steam store (GTA 4, F.E.A.R. collection, Days Gone, Horizon Zero Dawn, Dying Light, and more). Plus, using the Deck to play Game Pass games via the cloud & PS5 through remote play. Being able to add gyro support to games that don't even have the option is pretty mind-blowing that it works for my PS5 & Series X games as well. This all in one handheld is amazing! I'm very impressed!
Got a few ones I'll be dabbling in over the next two days:
Rayman expansion of Mario + Rabbids, and Into the Breach after that.
Super Mario 64 (via “3D All-Stars” cartridge).
Having trouble getting 8th and last red coin in first level.
I'm also finishing up Virtue's Last Reward, such a shame the zero escape trilogy isn't on switch. As well as wrapping up Dark Souls 1 remaster on switch before starting ng+. Probably gonna dl DS 2 & 3 to my ps5 while waiting for elden ring's shadow of the erdtree dlc.
@dugan Appreciate the kind words! Since 2009 she's been putting up with my nerdy gaming butt~
Here's to many more, but tonight's about her.
Bayonetta 3 is toast, and I was hoping I'd finally get to play Fire Emblem: Three Houses but GameFly sent me...
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. I would be absolutely lying if I said I was disappointed, but knowing the massiveness of this game, I really was trying to deal with it later. But, it looks like I will be experiencing this game mostly alongside the rest of the world, though I know everyone is farther ahead of me at this point. I'm trying my best not to stall and get started lol, the sooner I begin, the farther I'll be. As a companion game, I've been dabbling in the TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection cuz I've never played The Hyperstone Heist or any of the Game Boy Turtles, so that will help break up the monotony. Goodbye next 3 months, it's been nice knowing you-- I'll write you a letter Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Xenoblade Chronicles 3. May we meet in 2024...
Vampire Survivors and Brotato. Almost have everything unlocked on both.
Also spending time in Raincode and Baldurs Gate 1, have a nice Mage/Thief I’m working on.
And hopefully the kiddos will allow me some time with the tv so I can explore Starfield.
Played about 12hrs of Starfield and like the other BGS games it just doesn't do anything for me. Performance is good compared to other Bethesda titles at launch but this will be the last for me. So happy for those who enjoy it but there is better games in my backlog.
Got fed with with Tears of the Kingdom.... god what a chore!!
Doubling down on the weakest parts of BoTW sucks.... BRING BACK REAL ZELDA please.
Selling it on ebay right now, and moving on with another purchase upgrade for Skyrim! An all-time classic.
Brotato. Just poured a ton of hours into Vampire Survivors and wanted to play a similar game next, and this is hitting the spot.
Splatoon 3. I managed to get a high score of 150 eggs in the Big Run early on, which makes me nervous that that might not actually be that hard to reach, but I've only reached that same amount twice since, with the second time bumping up my score to 158. At this point I'm just trying to get some more scales. In previous Big Runs, the required amount of eggs to be in the top 5% has been 137, 141, and 150, and my prediction is that the it'll be 163 in this Big Run.
Some Tears of the Kingdom, lots of Shredder's Revenge, and Sea of Stars.
I can't gush enough about Sea of Stars. It's beautiful, charming, and just an all around blast to play.
@old-dad yeah that's the thing. I am very glad that XBOX seems to finally have a winner, but it's not for me.
@msvt I've tried to like Skyrim, but it feels awful to play imo. TotK feels great.
I’m playing Ghoul Busters on 3DS.
Alaina, you spoke the magic words (Lunar Eternal Blue), and will forever be my friend.
My weekend will hopefully see the completion of the fantastic Triangle Strategy.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
@LikelySatan
So much adventure in an unknown (for me) world! I feel "on" the world as opposed to "on" it if you know what I mean. I played years ago on 360 and every so often in every day life the sky, setting, an old ruin somewhere, etc. reminds me of that game. I am glad I just rebought for Switch. I love the way it levels, and it my interest you; Use whatever weapon or magic or skill and that is upgrades as you use it. Pretty different to what I am used to, even though I know Skyrim is old now. For Zelda, the breaking weapons, the difficult (for me) bosses, the blood moon, which I think is cheap and a sell-out move of the developers, and reusing the map is not as groundbreaking as BotW was, except this time -more frustrating. An incredible game and amazing what they did for Switch.. but I am not having fun and feel bored and some dread to go through it. Glad you like it.
Picross, Pokémon, and Red Dead. Maybe some Mario Kart if I get liquored up
@msvt yeah I've probably bought Skyrim 5 ish times and played 100 hours or so. The combat and movement feel sloppy to me. But I'm a big "feel" guy.
Also the setting is gross to me. Cold and grey and barren and I want to die. I hate snow and don't like it in my games even, lol. Makes everything monochrome or damn near, slippery walking (in a lot of games), water that hurts you. Hate snow. And that extends to BotW and TotK. Can't stand the snow regions. My one issue with Mario Odyssey even, is that they wasted a kingdom on snow. Ugh.
I'm one of those people that loves almost everything about totk. I don't think it will beat out Doom or Final Fantasy Tactics or New Vegas as favorites...but we will see. It's like a vacation for me. It's pure fun. I want to like Skyrim more.
I have recently been playing New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe due to wonder, though I also am playing Celeste with nearly 110 hours in the game (had it since May)
I’ve also recently played Mario Party Superstars again, it may overthrow DS as my favorite mp at this point
@LikelySatan
Snow is my highlight.... I remember playing this on below zero windy days where it dark for 16 hours per day! yes some of it is dated, the climbing and lack of paraglider are mostly what I miss about Nintendo's gem, but I think I am going to go back to the earlier Zelda's and hopefully I have forgotten enough of the golden era that is feels new again. I miss it.
@msvt I feel like now is the golden era, lol. Games are better than ever.
The blood moon resets the world state because of memory limitations. I get why people don't like it, but I dig it. Fun spooky stuff, and a clever solution.
If you've never played the gameboy Zeldas, I highly recommend them.
@LikelySatan
yeah I like now too!! I mean for Zelda
@LikelySatan Yeah other than a few Obsidian games and wasteland 3 Western Rpg just don't stir my drink. Its not from a lack of trying or spending time the mechanics just feel off for me.
Well, tomorrow is my birthday! I'll be playing Grisaia: Phantom Trigger, Amid Evil, Warhammer 40k: Boltgun, Red Faction: Armageddon and Mirror's Edge: Catalyst.
NiKKE. The collaboration with NieR is juicy to say the least..
@BodkinDQ that’s crazy, my wife and I are also celebrating 14 years this weekend!
@old-dad I strongly prefer western rpgs. I feel like the choices matter more there.
@Sourcecode A hearty congratulations to you guys as well! Took the woman out on a date and managed to refrain from playing any games today lol. She's the best. Hope you and your wife have an amazing 14th anniversary and wish for many more to come for you 2.
Eastward. At least, I try to. Weekend has been a bit of a mess mentally but I'll manage. Lots of things to sort out, but games always serve as a nice enough distraction from the stress of life for me. Especially little Eastward which has been quite wholesome so far.
@Freek Phoenotopia Awakening is a 10 outta 10! Hope you enjoy it.
Playing Aeterna Noctis - 59% done and it is BIG! Then AEW Fight Forever followed by Sea of Stars.
I finally decided to go back to Xenoblade Chronicles 3 this weekend! I played it for about two months after it released and then just kinda stopped. It took me a bit to re-learn the mechanics and remember the story but I finished chapter 2 today and I'm absolutely loving it. Don't know why I ever stopped. Also decided to start Persona 5 Royal on the Switch after having it in my backlog since it released, so I'll have two massive JRPGs to play for awhile lol.
@Nintenbot yeah, it is excellent so far.
Just over half way.
Enjoy Aeterna Noctis, I finished that about a month ago and it is huuuge.
Loved it though.
Enjoy.
I’m playing FFVII for the first time. I’m really liking it, but it definitely shows it’s age. I love finding out more about characters that I already know from Smash, and Cloud and Sephiroth are both awesome so far.
Spent first part of weekend trying (and succeeding) to get Mewtwo in Pokémon Violet. The rest will be a mix of Fortnite and Shredder’s Revenge DLC.
I played a little Big Run yesterday, but will do some more of that today. Also playing TMNT Shredder's Revenge and LoZ: TotK. On XBoxOne I am playing Sunset Overdrive.
After a long time I started playing again at the weekend Fast rmx. The game is the first league.
I'm flipping between red dead redemption, a second playthrough of metroid prime on Hard (I am at meta ridley) and sea of stars. Though this wasn't asked, I'm looking forward to getting Baten kaitos on the 15th this month. Hopefully I'll unlock vetran or hypermode and complete MP1 on that before Baten Kaitos releases. Then it'll be XC3, sea of stars, Baten Kaitos and undead nightmare as I've nearly completed RD1 in hard-core and smash out the challenges from time to time to get 100% completion.
@BodkinDQ that’s awesome! I hope you guys had a great weekend! Happy anniversary to you both!
@DTfeartheBEARD I told you so 🙂.. Go to protondb dot com and follow pixeldeck on youtube for games graphic settings that are awesome 👍...
@Rpg-lover Yes you did! I'll have to check it out. Last night I upgraded my 64gb internal storage to a 1TB SSD. I've been playing Starfield on xcloud with my Deck connected to my portable monitor with gyro and it's been a great experience! 👍
@DTfeartheBEARD nice, I got a cheaper SSD from Aliexpress, 2 TB and it works fantastic. Then, 1tb SDcard as well from Amazon.
That's good. I bought two 1 TB micro sd cards for my Deck since Amazon had a sale going last week. I had to redo the steps to get Game Pass back on my Deck this morning but unfortunately, I'm having problems putting Playstation remote play back on. Did you have any issues with that?
