Nostalgia’s gonna be the winning factor here for me. One vote for the western boxart.

NA, back when Pikachu could still be badass looking

The Japanese one would win this if it didn't have so much text in it. As it is, it's way too cluttered, the text takes you attention away from the nice pic and colour design.

Not a fan of the grey and yellow half-and-half on the JP one. NA one is also more consistent with the rest of the series' covers.

The Western one is just so ingrained into my brain as being THE Yellow version that it's hard to even see the Japanese one as such. Both are good though.

@PedroMatos I also voted NA/PAL like you, but the Japanese box art of Yellow is just as consistent with the JP versions of Red, Green and Blue. Unless you mean the rest of the series after Gen I too?

I voted for the westen cover. I think it looks cool and I Iike the artstyle, which I think is also used in the game manuals.

Personally, I like the Japanese box art, and same goes for the red, blue, and green versions. It's pretty nostalgic for me. It may be because way back when I'd stare at the box art for these in magazines and online, wondering if this interesting looking game would ever see a worldwide release.

The EU version is more clean.

Japanese one has better art of Pikachu but the rest of it's better in the NA / PAL one.

I mean, they both have Chonky Chu so are both winners in my eyes.

Japan for me, I just always liked the circular designs. Not that the western ones are bad or anything.

JP one for me this week. I like happy Pikachû more than the angry one. Also, I remember something about worldwide Kirby always being angry, while on JP box arts Kirby always being happy/smiling or whatever...

The og RGBY covers are iconic in all regions, but I voted Japan for happy Pikachu.

I had to vote for the European/North American artwork, just for pure nostalgic reasons.

Definitely a top three Coldplay song.

Going to vote for NA/EU (giving NA top billing since the game didn't release in the EU until about 8 months later, so they very much just copied the NA design).

The JPN art is good too, but as others have said the text makes it too cluttered, & it doesn't have the nostalgia going for it for me.

Voted for the North American/European one for not having information scrawled all over the box.

Nostalgia is surely a huge factor for me here but I do just love the pure focus on Pikachu and the colour yellow in the US/Europe one.

They gave Pikachu the Kirby treatment in America before they gave Kirby the Kirby treatment. Funny how that works out.

I have no nostalgia for this one. With that said, I vastly prefer the western cover. I prefer the way Pikachu is illustrated looking determined as he prepares an attack. The Japanese cover is also really messy with its background.

I don't even like Pokémon but I have always loved that NA box art.

I’ve never liked the slightly cross-eyed pose they used in the Japanese one. The American pose looks much nicer.

I'm probably going with the Japanese cover, as it advertises Pokémon Stadium, the one the west didn't get. That and because I like the design of the Gen I games compared to other Game Boy box arts.

For those wondering about the grey on the Japanese cover, that's probably to make it consistent with the rest of the first-party GB box arts in Japan. They all have gray on them as background, with the actual image and details/designs varying.

North America (European is similar, only with different logos/brandings. There's also a slightly different NA version with a different ESRB style)

Japan (keep in mind the Japanese version is not a Game Boy Color game the same way the Western versions are):

Personally, I feel the Nintendo logo and the copyright of the Japanese cartridge could be Black instead of white, if only to stand out a bit from the yellow background, even if it is consistent with the Japanese Green, Red and Blue.

That North American logo design really is something else... Japan it is, lol.

Of course there's going to be a strong bias for the Western art on this one. Transports me back to being a kid who couldn't afford a Game Boy, but I did thoroughly enjoy playing the classics "via other means" until they were available on 3DS.

I would absolutely kill for all of the classic Pokémon games on a physical cartridge for Switch. Even better if they throw in the original Japanese versions, plus wireless local multiplayer. What a package that would be. But Nintendo/TPCi evidently hates us.

Was gonna go with America first on this one because of how mischievous Pikachu looks but honestly I like how happy he looks on the Japanese box art and I like the contrast of the grey and yellow colors.

The Japan one is cute but a bit too "busy". I like the comparitively more organised NA /EU cover which is, admittedly, legendary in my mind's nostalgic eye
