The smell of change is in the air. On Monday 12th May the WiiWare service is launching in the USA. Will the world ever be the same again?
To coincide with this momentous occasion it is with great pleasure that we can announce we will be launching a new site specifically dedicated to WiiWare (or Wii Software to Euro gamers!).
Behold the future, behold WiiWare World!
Whilst the site isn’t ready for the world to see quite yet, our talented code monkey Ant is working on it as we speak. Worry not, it will all turn out alright on the night!
Thanks for all the people who emailed in to apply to be a reviewer on the new site. Frankly the response has been overwhelming so no more entries please. We'll be contacting everyone individually soon.

This is fantastic i'm definetly considering this!

I'll definitely consider applying, nice idea
EDIT: Can our sample review be on any game or...?
3. Viral
10 May 2008, 14:12 GMT
It's a possibility. Does it pay well?
Hehe. I'm working a dead end job.

I know I should'nt go off topic but WiiWare's launch games have been revealled!
mod edit: please keep discussion to the dedicated news story here

Such a shame my Wii is only online once in a bluemoon. I would love to be your "unwitting victim"
6. Stuffgamer1
10 May 2008, 14:38 GMT
Does this mean all the WiiWare news will stop cluttering up the VC site? Not that I don't want the news; I just meant a second site is definitely the best way to go. Thanks, guys, and keep up the great work!
7. Dazza
10 May 2008, 14:40 GMT
Yes the idea is that VC-Reviews will only do Virtual Console and our new WiiWare World site will be dedicated purely to WiiWare.
All existing news stories relating to WiiWare will be carried across from VC:R to the new site along with your comments. Your user accounts will work across both sites so you won't need to create a new profile.

10 May 2008, 14:41 GMT
I would definetly give it a shot, but I'e been already signed up for a local videogames portal and I have a full time employment... id be overwheleed with work... Ill have to pass, sadly.
9. zss_shadow
10 May 2008, 14:57 GMT
I've been reviewing games for quite some time, so I'll try to join. =D Only one thing though...Would we get the games given to us or would we have to use our own money? I might be able to afford a game a week, but it would sort of cut some bucks...
EDIT: Yay, I submitted. =)
10. Dazza
10 May 2008, 15:11 GMT
It is unlikely that we are going to be able to pay for reviews at this stage. However we might be able to do 'gifts' from time to time. No promises!
11. Tides of Chaos
10 May 2008, 15:19 GMT
I would definitely do this if I wasn't such a cheapo. I don't want to download crappy games that I have no interest in and review them. Besides, I already waste enough time on the internet as it is! (not that reviewing game is a waste of time....oh, you know what I mean!)
12. Villain
10 May 2008, 15:22 GMT
Aww, hot damn! I forgot to talk about that WiiWare game! Is it alright if I send you another app?
edit: Sent. Hope you don't mind 2 apps from the same user^^
edit2: Crap twice: the return of the crap! Forgot to type what region I'm from...s-should I send in a 3rd application?
13. Thomas
10 May 2008, 15:45 GMT
I'd love to, but I don't buy Wii Points that often anymore. I'll think about it though, because I legitimately am interested.
14. Viral
10 May 2008, 15:59 GMT
...I haven't bought Wii Points since Adventures of Lolo unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, I like VC titles, but I don't buy in bulk, I buy one, complete it, buy another, complete it, it's a vicious cycle.
15. Bensei
10 May 2008, 16:12 GMT
Damn, now I have to check two sites every Friday!
Well, I'll survive it... maybe
I'd really like to take a foot step into the gaming journou, but I don't think I'd buy much Wiiware Games, and since Wiiware games always show something new I can't review from experiences with the Original game (like I could have with VC games like Megaman or Super Mario Bros.).
Plus, I don't think I'd have much time to write some
16. x.SuperMario.x
10 May 2008, 16:51 GMT
can't wait.
now i get to check two websites,
so if one brings disappointing news, maybe the other site will equal things out.

10 May 2008, 17:45 GMT
Wow thats a cool oppurtuniy , I would consider except I busy working on my Masters degree at this time. Maybe in the future
Anyway it will be neat to have 2 sites. I am looking forward to see what you guys think of Dr. Mario and Star Soldier R
18. Clayfrd
10 May 2008, 18:22 GMT
@Dazza-
"We’re not asking that you are expert reviewers or masters of the English language." Was that a directed sentence? I actually have a grammar correction that I have decided to withhold for this article. I would love to review for you, and I have written several very long reviews for GameSpot. My Pikmin review was almost two pages in ten font and single spaced. I tend to ramble... Unfortunately, like Slangman, my Wii is also only online once in a blue moon. I look forward to the WiiWare reviews, and I hope you get some top notch journalists.
19. Dazza
10 May 2008, 18:39 GMT
OK Clayfrd maybe you can proof read what us mere mortals come up with instead?
20. DEMON212
10 May 2008, 18:39 GMT
This site gonna need Mods?
21. Dazza
10 May 2008, 18:40 GMT
As ever! Demon you're hired!
22. Villain
10 May 2008, 18:49 GMT
@Dazza:
Like I asked in my last post, should I send in yet another app? I forgot to mention what region I'm in.
23. Stratos
10 May 2008, 19:10 GMT
I kind of liked the idea of one single site for both...
But I'll role with it. Impressed with all the work you guys do.
24. Dokenzz
10 May 2008, 19:21 GMT
@Dazza
Are there any age requirements? Please tell me not!!!
I sent in an app, I'd love to be able to put this on my resume, lawlz.. maybe if I worked for Nintendo Power:)
Can I be an editor too, I'm so good with grammar, like not using 2 negatives in a single sentence, plus you made a mistake, "If you are interesting in helping out- ", you mean interested in helping out... PLEASE LET ME JOIN :').. I'm hyped
25. Shortay-01
10 May 2008, 19:39 GMT
How much reviewing would you have to do if you were picked? As many or as little as you would like (with some boundaries, obviously)?
26. Dazza
10 May 2008, 20:21 GMT
@Villian - No problem, thats fine. We will get back to you soon. We've been a bit overwhelmed by the response. We're not ignoring anyone!
@Dokenzz - There aren't any age requirements as such, but the ability to write good English is an important factor in reviewing so "generally" we will prefer older reviewers. Sad but true!
@Shortay - As little or as much as you like. No pressure!
27. Phantom5800
10 May 2008, 20:28 GMT
Basically the same questions as everyone else. I'll send in an ap anyway, but I would like to know of any requirements for number of reviews, etc. I don't get a ton of money to buy WiiPoints with, but am still interested in doing what I can.
edit: lol, thanks Dazza for answering right before I posted
28. Shortay-01
10 May 2008, 20:40 GMT
Thanks Dazz, just writing my review now
Also, any deadline for this?
29. Objection_Blaster
10 May 2008, 21:02 GMT
I just sent mine in. I want to be work for a Game Magazine someday so this would be great. (I'm going to study Journalism in college) And Dazza mentioned a great point. I can pay for the games I WANT TO review because I'm going to get them anyway, but for games we hopeful reviewers don't plan to get, it would be nice to receive "gifts." Are Gifts US only? I ask because I know Japan doesn't have them.
30. Villain
10 May 2008, 21:08 GMT
Thanks, Dazza. I sent it in (for the third time).
@Objection_Blaster: If you're talking about the VC Gift function, it's in Europe too.
31. Akantor
10 May 2008, 21:21 GMT
Expect to get my review soon Dazza.
32. Dazza
10 May 2008, 21:28 GMT
@Shortay - No deadline, but some of the more popular games are already being taken
@Objection - Gamers in Europe can give gifts too but it only works country to country. So France cannot give a gift to England which is a bit dumb!
33. Shortay-01
10 May 2008, 21:35 GMT
Just sent my app anyway Dazz
34. Terranigma
10 May 2008, 21:41 GMT
this is gamegod3008 under a new name. I'm interested in applying. Looking at your last post Dazza, does that mean that you can't do a review for games that have already had a review by someone else that's applying?
35. Dazza
10 May 2008, 21:50 GMT
@Terranigma - Reviewers will register their interest to review future titles, then when the game is actually available to download we'll decide who is free at that time to do the review.
We won't be having multiple reviews of the same game. One review with a score from 1 to 10.
36. Terranigma
10 May 2008, 21:55 GMT
ok then
37. Shortay-01
10 May 2008, 21:55 GMT
When will we be hearing from you guys about whether we've been accepted or not?
38. Akantor
10 May 2008, 21:59 GMT
Just a quick question Dazza, Any preference on what game Wii game I should review? I am personally thinking of reviewing Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles since it's one of my favorite Wii games. Would that be okay?
39. Sariku
10 May 2008, 22:09 GMT
I submitted my review. I'm looking forward to your response.
40. Dazza
10 May 2008, 22:14 GMT
@Shortay - We hope to get back to everyone within a day or so.
The demand has been quite high so we're only going to be able to take a small percentage of reviewers on board at this stage. Don't let that stop anyone from applying though. We're considering everyone on their merits.
@Akantor - Any game will do - Umbrella Chronicles sounds fine.
41. Clayfrd
10 May 2008, 22:15 GMT
@Dazza-
Now that you mention it, I would have no problem proofreading! I think you were being sarcastic, but I honestly wouldn't mind.
42. Shortay-01
10 May 2008, 22:18 GMT
No problem Dazza, good luck with everything
43. Dokenzz
10 May 2008, 22:22 GMT
@Dazza
Whens the site launch, and how are you going to notify people of they get to be part of the team?
PLEASE LET ME JOIN!! I'm an ace in spelling... sigh and grammar
44. Sariku
10 May 2008, 22:37 GMT
Oh, and I reviewed Pokemon Battle Revolution, since other people are showing what they reviewed. Unfortunately, I didn't know what coding it would use to italicize and bold words in the message, so I didn't bother trying. I gave you a link if you wanted to read it formatted, but I also posted an unformatted one in the message. Of course I can change the review style to be like the ones you use on the site, but this was a few days ago when I wrote this. I hope you enjoy.
45. Shortay-01
10 May 2008, 22:49 GMT
I was also worried about that Sariku, since when I originally wrote it on MS Word I italicized the title of the game I reviewed and emboldened the questions...
46. Terranigma
10 May 2008, 22:50 GMT
I just sent a review of Ghost Squad.
47. Versus22
10 May 2008, 22:51 GMT
@7 (Dazza):
Thank you!
48. Sariku
10 May 2008, 22:53 GMT
Yeah. Except I originally wrote it on WiFi Wars, and then copied it to SmashBoards. I didn't know if the settings here would use HTML Bold/Italics <B>[I] or Forums form [B][I], so I just put them in quotation marks and such.
49. Terranigma
10 May 2008, 22:56 GMT
I didn't use coding either as i wasn't sure how on the application
50. Pavetheway
10 May 2008, 23:29 GMT
I would except that I would probably never get around to doing it. sigh...
btw, I looked at the source and there is alot of work to be done!
51. Mendez
11 May 2008, 00:08 GMT
I'd love to do this but while I've gotten better with practice I still find it very difficult to write reviews...
Can't wait to see the new site!
52. Pocketim
11 May 2008, 00:52 GMT
@ Mendez: I would like to do it as well but everyone hates my reviews so I gave it up

54. Terranigma
11 May 2008, 01:55 GMT
1: Can we resubmit our Reviews?
2: If so, can you send us our previous ones?
3: When will it be announced who has been selected?
55. J.K.
11 May 2008, 02:34 GMT
Curious...is there any requirement to be able to do the writing then really? Age and general region aren't a factor. How about money? You won't be supplying Wii Point cards will you or 'gift' games so they can be reviewed on schedule?
I'm just basically curious if this is just a help the site out thing where you buy what you want and then review it much like the reader write-ups at Gamefaqs and everywhere else.
I wrote reviews and some specials for AMN(now Kombo) for 2 years from 04-06 and miss doing reviews. I think that the Wii Ware service is a great way to try out indy wares for sure from people and I think I'd love to drop my name into the bucket perhaps. I'm good to review whatever for the most part as I did in the past, but if I'm buying I'd be very much more choosey on what I'd grab as I'm not a 'game gambler' when it comes to personal funds.
56. Tesche
11 May 2008, 03:50 GMT
Like others....when I read this topic I became quite excited....but have since lost a little bit of my enthusiasm after having read the entire article and all the comments. I just don't feel that I will buy enough Wii Ware games on my own to be a competent and trusted reviewer. Readers develop trust with reviewers because of their ability to discriminate and be (hopefully) objective. Both sporadic reviewing and reviewing things you have a personal bias towards (after all, you chose to buy it) are both counterproductive to reader trust. There is no body of work on which to judge a reviewer and there is no faith that someone isn't merely trying to justify their own purchase or destroy a game they wasted their money on.
Just my two cents, but I don't think I will be applying.

62. Terranigma
11 May 2008, 09:27 GMT
How many people did apply?
63. Dazza
11 May 2008, 10:44 GMT
We had about 40 people show interest in joining the reviewing team. If we did pass you up on this occasion we may get back to you in the future once the dust has settled. Most of the applications were of really good quality. Don't take it personally
64. Terranigma
11 May 2008, 11:09 GMT
I'm not but i am going to redo that review and put it on IGN under the name "Nanostray". That would be my 4th one, alongside Star Fox Assault, Sin and Punishment and Gunstar Heroes

11 May 2008, 11:57 GMT
When will the new site be launching then guys?
66. Dazza
11 May 2008, 12:03 GMT
We should hopefully reveal the new site late tonight, or on Monday. Needless to say its looking pretty special and very different from VC:R, in a good way!
Watch this space!
67. DEMON212
11 May 2008, 12:13 GMT
My only critacism is, you guys still haven't fully introduced everything you said the VCR would have, so what's happening with that?
Because I really want to be able to post a link to all my games and the ratings I've given them, as well as being able to rate games without them being classed as owned by me (Like ZAMN, which I don't own on the VC, but I'd still like to give it a 5).
68. Objection_Blaster
11 May 2008, 15:25 GMT
Well, I didn't make it, but the reply was very respectful and I hope that I'll be a "second chance" reviewer in the future. I completely understand that there shouldn't be too many reviewers and now I that I know there were 40 applicants...well, congrats to those who made it!
69. Pegasus
11 May 2008, 15:29 GMT
I'm curious about the forum. Is it going to expand the VC-Reviews forum or are they going to be completely separate from one another? Frankly, I'd think the former would be a lot more beneficial.
70. Dazza
11 May 2008, 15:37 GMT
@demon - all in good time. Ant has just been really snowed under lately.
@Pegasus - VC-Forums is really independant from us so we'll have to see how things develop. They do have a WiiWare section so no doubt that will be a good place to chat if the banter is too off topic for WiiWare World's reviews and news pages.
71. Drizzt
11 May 2008, 15:41 GMT
I look forward to your new site. It seems like a good idea.
72. Phantom5800

73. DEMON212
11 May 2008, 15:53 GMT
That's ok, I was just worried that WiiWareWorld meant no more VCR updates
I'd have applied for a job, but I want WiiWareWorld to be successful, lol. And unfortunately my written reviews, while they were well received, they were, long... My Castlevania DOS review was over 6 A4 pages long. Plus, I'd never be able to score Dr. M anything higher than a 0, lol.
Never liked the game, always felt inferior to Tetris to me.
On the subject of the forum, I fail to see why you guys would need to make a new one, because the one Divine runs is mint and could just as easily be expanded to add more WiiWare forums.
Maybe getting him to change the name though, so that people searching for Wii Ware forums could find the VCF too.
74. Shortay-01
11 May 2008, 16:34 GMT
I agree DEMON, I hope that the forum we know and love will stay as the sole forum. Some more sub-forums for WiiWare could be good though.

I'm looking forward to the new site, I want to see who the reviewers are, read the reviews, condense and Pod Cast them??? (Yeah, need to know what's happening with that actually, are they covering WW or are we?) And most importantly, find out my powers and how to use them
89. Dazza
12 May 2008, 12:34 GMT
Ant is getting the new site ready to launch later today. Then hopefully you guys will pimp it on all the other forums, etc which you visit! Pretty please
You'll get to know our new reviewing team soon enough. The three D's are taking a back seat for the moment to make way for some fresh new talent. Here is who is doing what:
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles - Corbie
LostWinds - Corbie
Defend Your Castle - Alex K
Pop - Stephen W
TV Show King - Collin W
V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack - Paul S
Corbie of course you will know as he already helps out with VC-Reviews from time to time.
Unlike VC-Reviews you'll have to wait a bit longer for the reviews to be revealed. For the launch games we're trying to have them all up by Tuesday or Wednesday.
90. Valien
