Parasol Stars (TurboGrafx-16)

Parasol Stars

This sequel to Rainbow Islands sees a return to the gameplay of Bubble Bobble, but with Bub and Bob in their now-human forms.

The boys must clear a series of screens of bad guys - who take slightly more esoteric forms than the angry caterpillars from Rainbow Islands - and again pick up a whole bunch of power-ups.

But this time they're armed with umbrellas! Oh, okay then, parasols...

What a cracker! Ignored but hopefully no longer! This deserves recognition on VC: IT MUST BE BOUGHT!

I hope we'll also see New Zealand Story at some point, as it's basically the third game after Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Island.

Never heard of this one before, but I love bubble bobble and rainbow island! It looks like loads of fun, based on the video!

@KeeperBvK
I loved New Zealand Story (Kiwi Craze in the US), it had ideas for days, like those caged elevators on tracks or those egg-like pods you could fly around in. It was cool to see elements of Bubble Bobble, like the EXTEND letters and the Death Whales that appear when your time runs out. Not quite in the style of Bubble Bobble, no one-screen levels. A really unique, slept on game, I would buy it no doubt if it came to VC.

A must buy. I want it!

Parasols are fun! And stars are fun, so I guess this game will be fun too.

I absolutely love this game. Tons of fun, and very good use of the color palete. Two players is great. I hope that Working Designs puts all of their games on here, such as cosmic Phantasy 2 and Vasteel. Cadash would be a sweet download, too.

@michinmuri

Working Designs nolonger exists. They went bankrupt in 2005.

There is no chance of Cosmic Fantasy 2 being release on the vc. Telenet of Japan went bankrupt last year.

This comes out in Japan next week. I hope it comes here soon. I loved Rainbow Islands and have played some of Parasol Stars but I never properly owned it or played it properly. please let this game be in the next update!

I know about WD, and that sucks about Telenet. Still, wishful thinking.

Great! Hopefully, the Bust-A-Move games that're for the SNES & N64 will also be released soon!

i think I'd rather have Bubble Bobble than this.

It looks very taito-y, and with new zealand story, bubble bobble, and liquid kids, a little out classed.

i'd rather play Parasol Stars than any of those three games you mentioned. although Rainbow Islands is still the best.

Finally some Working Designs on the VC? I only know them from the Saturn, but I'd love to see their earlier works!

Bubble Bobble's fun, and flinging enemies around with an umbrella sounds entertaining, so it's got my attention.

It's a cracking game! I can't wait for it to come out over here. Played it to death on the Amiga and this version looks almost as good so it'll do for me. As with Rainbow Islands to Bubble Bubble, this is more of a spiritual sequel than a sequel in the conventional sense. I really enjoy the whole idea of having to collect up the rain drops with your brolly to kill enemies and it's brilliant in two player.
