Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes (TurboGrafx-16)

Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes

"Dragon Slayer" tells the story of a young prince named Selios. One day his old teacher Raiyas sends him to a nearby cave to retrieve a magic weapon. When the prince returns, he finds the house attacked by monsters. Raiyas tells him to seek help in the castle of a baron, whose country has always been allies with theirs for a long time. However, the baron betrays Selios' trust and imprisons him. The young prince manages to escape, but without the possibility to return he has no choice but to wander through the land, trying to find trustworthy companions who would help him to save his country.

This is a traditional medieval-themed Japanese RPG with turn-based combat viewed from first-person perspective (like in Dragon Warrior games). The enemies are semi-random: they do appear out of nowhere and attack suddenly, but they are visible on the screen, and if you flee from a battle they will still be there to pursue you.

Are you really sure these are the orginal voices in the video? Really sounds strange to me, more like a fan act. The voices are good, but sometimes don't seem to fit the spaking character. And laking emotion- like it's all read out of a book...

Well, do the voices in early Resident Evil games sound good? :p

yeah, this game is well-known for horrible voice acting... i wish there was a feature where you could just shut it off and read text (would make the game actually playable then)...

I believe there actually IS such a feature. But let's wait for the full review before assuming so.

This looks like an interesting RPG. I could do without the voice acting, but plenty of great games had horrendous voice acting (Star Ocean: The Second Story, Valkyrie Profile, etc...).

It looks pretty good, but the voice acting makes me want to crawl into a hole.

This looks like it's related to Dragon Slayer 4 a.k.a Legacy of the Wizard. I wonder if it has awesome music like Legacy of the Wizard.

In RE nobody tried to do accents. Thank sweet Christ.

This looks like a good game. I'm really into the traditional, strategy, and real time games so I'll pick this one up if it gets a 3 star or higher rating.

This game is like a turn-based version of Ys. Outstanding soundtrack, but TERRIBLE voice acting. The fake accents sound just that...fake! Other than this slight drawback, this is a great rpg.

On RPG terms, this is a good game with few cutscenes. The only cutscenes reallt are the bits where to voice acting comes in, which can be equally annoying and hilarious if you don't take the voices too seriously. If you're looking for a decent old-scool RPG with good gameplay and music, then this should work wonders. 4/5 stars.

Never played this on my Duo originally and it fetches quite a tidy sum on ebay nowadays...Will it actually ever be released in the UK or US??? I'm not holding my breath at the moment. Loved Ys I & II on the PC Engine so this is at the top of my list!

Y'know this game looks very interesting, especially for being such an old RPG. I wonder when it'll be coming out?

Quick question, even if the voice acting is terrible how's the story? That's a huge factor for me with RPGs.
