In Duck Hunt you need to use the Nintendo's light zapper to shoot ducks which your trusty dog scares out of the swamp. Either one or two ducks fly out at a time, and you have three shots and a limited amount of time to shoot the ducks before they fly away. Each round only allows a limited number of misses in order to move on successfully.
As the rounds progress, the ducks begin flying faster and faster, and fewer misses are allowed. After you've mastered hunting ducks, you can move on to the target range and practice shooting clay pigeons. The rules here are the same with only three shots to destroy two clay pigeons before they disappear off the horizon. Destroy enough clay pigeons to move on to the next, tougher round.

It's a shame nintendo have to be like this, they simply know that thier main fanbase is mainly hardcore fans, and they are gonna pay anything for some old classic NES games, so they have put these rediclous prices up to rake in the millions, that based on the sales of the wii, they simply don't need. if they are not careful thier trusting hardcore fanbase is gonna slowly dissaprear, i'm certainly having second thoughts about the way nintendo are treating thier "loyal" fans. which i have been for many many years now, and i've never been so pleased when they made this amazing comeback but £3.50 (5$) for a game thats more than 2 decades old and was bundled free anyways!!! SORT YOUR SELF OUT NINTENDO!

Hopefully once nintendo releases the zapper for the wii remote we'll be able to play this using the zapper. That would be sweet. I won't mind coughing up five bucks for this. I love this game!

Well you are going to play with the wiimote for a start. Don't be so skeptical, the shooting alley games in Wario smooth moves plays like a dream using the wiimote as a lightgun.

I remember playing this one at my mates house when i was 11 y/o - we worked out that the screen was effectivly split into 3 thirds, by shooting towards the third the target was in you would always get a perfect score.
we thought we were so clever, untill we realised we had just ruined the game

Duck Hunt is one, if not the best light gun game of the 8-bit era. Instantly addictive and enjoyable even to the most casual of gamer. Of the handful of games released for the NES "Zapper", it is without doubt the most enduring. Great graphics for 1985 and a fundamentally enjoyable "hunting simulator".
The problem is that one of the most important aspects of the game that made it good was the use of the Zapper. Replace the Zapper with the Wii-mote and it won't be as good fun. It's also not enough of a game to contemplate investing in a Zapper-style controller/wii-mote adapter for the Wii either, should one ever come out.
Considering there is a re-working of Duck Hunt included in WiiPlay, it's not really going to be worth downloading.

Chaz, I totally agree with you. Nintendo isn't releasing good enough games. some of the nes games are ok but a lot of them you can play on animal crossing. Usually Nintendo releases three games at a time, in the three games they should keep the bad ones and one good one that everybody likes. This way they get ride of all of the games and keep their fans.

My favorite lightgun game of them all. I used to cheat and get close to the screen to win. Everybody in my family used to love playing this and laughing at the dog when I first got it. Ultimate Duck Hunting on the Wii won't have the same appeal I fear.

This is certainly not worth 500 Wii Points, but it is a fun game. That's why I recommend you save your Wii points and use the internet channel to find the Duck Hunt flash game that you can play with the Wiimote's capabilities. I did, and it's certainly more worthwhile than wasting five bucks.
And even if you have to shell out five bucks for the internet channel because you haven't downloaded it yet, it's still a better use of your money.

I wouldn't waste my money on this game, it had it's appeal when it was released new many years ago but no its good for a quick 5 minute nostalgia run but it will soon be cast aside and forgotten.
To use the wii remote as the gun, would required virtually rewriting the the game and then maybe that justifies the cost. Remember the light gun is a photodiode gun the wii remote pointer uses an IR sensor.

I hope that to, Kevin. Nintendo should release a Virtual Console version of the Zapper that is compatible with the NES Zapper, SNES Super Scope and the Genesis Menacer but with an updated sleek and comfortable design while still featuring all the buttons of the original light guns.
the light gun games weren't really bad IMO, but the Super Scope was terrible to use as a light gun.

It'd be interesting to see how this plays. IR's different from a light gun cause you see the pointer on the screen. Unless you didn't. Hmm. I'd pay for something like Lethal Enforcers, just not Duck Hunt. What's Yoshi's Safari like?

When my parents got my brother and I our NES back in the day, they opted for the bundle with the SMB game only. We never got the gun or Duck Hunt. I played it at friends houses for sure, but never really played it too much. 500 points is a little steep for a lot of you who had it back in the day, but I think it has some value to those of us that never really played in back in the day. As far as the Wii play "updated" version, I'm more of a fan of original versions of the classics, so I'll might buy it because I can use the Wii remote as the gun, playing it as close as the way it was in the original.
