In this game, you play Riki. Kyoko, your beautiful Japanese girlfriend, has been kidnapped, and in order to rescue her, you must get through a tireless army of enemies. These enemies come equipped with weapons that include whips, knives, swords, and flamethrowers, but Riki has to make do with his well-trained martial arts body.
Black Belt is a side-scrolling game that is split into seven chapters. During these chapters, you are fighting Chinese Kung Fu men, wrestlers, jujitsu men, eagles, ninjas and more. When you get halfway through the chapter, you will fight a different enemy than one that you encounter before. At the end of each chapter, you have to defeat several bosses before continuing on to the next round. Each type of these has their own personal strengths and weaknesses.
Once you touch an enemy or boss, you will lose energy. once you lose all energy, you lose a life, but more life can be restored by getting cake when it comes across the screen in mid-air, or by defeating an enemy that will come at you halfway through the stage.

i wonder if this means that we're getting Last Battle for sega genesis/MD because I loved that game as a kid (I never understood why everyone hated it)...
Last Battle was the sequel to this game. the soundtrack to that game rocked...

I'm not so clear on the Sega Master System. So did this system come before the Genesis or after. And is the English version called Black Belt or Fist of the North Star?

before anyone else comments this page, i just want to say i agree with the comments above me(except deggs). @ Will, i saw the box cover for the other game coming to Japan's VC and i thought Sega was being ridiculous at the time. @ Demon212, kinda looks worse than both Vigilante and China Warrior combined!

The gameplay looks sorta like Kung Fu and very enjoyable. I'll probably buy this when it comes out.

This game was one of the first I had for the Master System and, to be frank, it is dull, repetitive and at the back of the drawer where I keep my MS carts. All you do is walk to the right killing the endlessly spawning enemies, occasionally super jumping to collect food, etc. Okay, so later levels introduce diving hawks, jumping enemies and others armed with swords (the enemies with whips, knives and flamethrowers are sub-bosses); but the basic idea of walking a few steps and attacking will get old. When you've worked out a rhythm to killing regular enemies and learnt which moves/techniques you use against which end of level boss the game also ends up becoming ridiculously easy. Although there are worst games for the system I cannot recommend this game myself.

LOL. Besides the cover art on the box, the guys disentigrate into pieces when you hit them. Too funny. And when in the video the boss is beaten, you punch the living crap out of them. Reminds me of a brutality in Mortal Kombat. I think Nintendo just needs to release Kung Fu and be done with it.

Uh yeah, of course they explode. That's what Fist of the North Star is all about. It's like playing a Dragonball game and laughing at the fact that everyone can fly.

Black Belt is a 1986 side-scrolling fighting game released for the Sega Master System. It is a localization of the Japanese Mark III game, Hokuto no Ken (北斗の拳, Hokuto no Ken?), which in turn was based on the Japanese manga and anime of the same name (Fist of the North Star in English), although it was stripped of its license in the North American and PAL versions. It was one of programmer Yuji Naka's early games prior to his involvement in Sonic the Hedgehog.
Some nice info on this game..
Some boring gameplay and from a designers point of view and horrible box art as can be said for most master system games..

Is it sad that I can tell who most of the censored characters really are.
