Re: USA VC Update: Sonic (Master System) and Splatterhouse 2

I am okay with Squenix "milking" their classic RPG's as long as they actually do it. I'll definitely be buying the DW IV remake when it comes out. And I'll even have to get a new DS to do it (which I'll do) because my last one was jacked or perhaps lost. I'm still going to do it. That being said, I'd be one of the jokers that would still download the original on the VC if they ever released it just to play the original since I never did. Now that would be milking, but I doubt they will ever do it due to concerns about losing sales on the remake. Let's face it, though, I don't think they would lose much but I don't have readily available evidence to support my feeling that way....

By Sharecrow

Re: USA VC Update: Sonic (Master System) and Splatterhouse 2

Well I never played Illusion of Time, so to me Terranigma was awesome. I only played 2 levels, so I'll admit to being more than a little over excited, sorry. I still think it's pretty cool though, and it is rare that I like so much of an RPG right from the start, usually I'm bored with 'em until I get the second level, so I feel that a game that hooks me right from the get- go is indeed worth a fair amount of praise.

Well, I'm over this whole schtic. I'm a diehard Sonic Fan, so I'll probably wind up with Sonic SMS sooner or later, and I now realize that there are a TON of games on the VC that I want, so the new ones simply would've meant that it would take even longer for me to adress the backlog. I'm still disappointed that Samurai Shodown 2 didn't come out, but mainly because it would've meant that I would've broken into two genres on the same day.

Oh, and I got Blastworks last week. I even passed up Battalion Wars 2, which is on my the tip-top of my Wii wishlist, in order to get my hands on it, and it pretty damn great! At least, it is with a friend anyways. You'd be surprised by some of the stuff a group of people can come up with when given the right tools.

Unfortunately, no matter how much imagination I tell myself I have, when given the tools to apply that imagination, the wheels in my head stop turning, and only with the help of another human being can I get those wheels turn again. To be frank, the stuff I created was G-D awful and wholly uninspiring, but with some help from my brother, they became less awful, and less uninspiring.

Mostly though, we just wound up kicking arse in the campain levels. They aren't the best shooter levels I played, heck the levels in the original flash game were better than some of the ones we played, and with only one player, it's unequivocally dull. But one you second player in there, things really pick up and it becomes a blast! Shame the ordinary campaign doesn't have 4-player co-op, but it is nice to see that they left it in the user created levels.

All in all, I'm glad I got it, and I really glad that you got to play it in a party setting, since it really is a party-oriented game.

Wow, that was a lot more than I was intending to write, but I think it was worth it.

I'll try to hold off spending my points until this coming Monday, but my guess is I'll probably wind up picking something from that backlog I mentioned earlier. Until then, I'll be playing games that actually run on a disc :O Astonishing, I know!

By Mickeymac

I'm angry enough and I write rants for my local teen newspaper whenever there isn't a good game coming out. But I'm no AVGN...he's funny, but he gets old after a while.

@ Adamant:
Yeah I know that the SMS system version is different, the Genesis version is totally better. SML is a totally different game when you REALLY look into it, different styling becauses its not Miyamoto. But honestly, you know I'm right; only the Sonic hardcore will truly buy this game.

@ Mickeymac
Totally thanks for feeling my pain here, that would have been the awesomest B-day ever. Yeah but I had fun we played some other oldschool games like Blastworks (okay that's not oldschool, but every Wii owner should get it! GOLD!!), Ikaruga (the ultimate GC version), Street Fighter Alpha II Gold (Off of the Saturn's Street Fighter Collections...awesome), and some Brawl and the likes. I had fun. Though I totally agree with you on the SMS version of Sonic.

BTW I have no idea about Terranigami or whatever! WHAT IS THAT GAME? Is it that awesome?

By TheLuigiDude

Re: USA VC Update: Sonic (Master System) and Splatterhouse 2

I could be angry, but most of the time I'd tend to direct my anger towards people hating certain VC weeks altogether because it's not the games that they want, rather than the qualty of the games in question (the whole Bio Miracle debacle keeps coming to mind here >.>).

@ Lefty Noob, comment #191: You've got a good theory concerning the steak and chicken scenario, so I appreciate that. But in the past, I'd rather get hyped by seeing if a certain game I'd take interest in is on the VC, watching footage of it, understanding what it's about and still deciding to go for it a few days later. I know some people aren't like that at all, but it's just a way of seeing it.

Besides, wouldn't it be nicer if Ys at least got a PEGI/OFLC rating too, so that us outside the Americas won't have to linger in the dark over how it is? ;)

By Rexy

When star tropics went out to the vc here in EU (Sweden) i downloaded it and i am very happy that i did that.

Personally, I want to see Terranigma on the VC. The story was pretty good, not to mention unique, and the combat was superb! The dungeons were challenging, but in a good way. Most of all, it did what few other RPGs were capable of doing: hooking me immediately and keeping me hooked, which alone garners a high amount of praise. I'm surprised nobody ever mentions it, but it certainly adds hope that it will one day come to the Virtual Console!

By Mickeymac

@Bahamut ZERO. The chances of Squenix actually releasing their classic RPGs (especially one as epic for it's time as DQ IV) at a bargain price of 5-8 dollars is something that's never gonna happen. You know them: They'd much rather milk their triple-A games for all they're worth by remaking them at 10-6 times the price you could get them on VC, while adding one new dungeon or something and tweaking the graphics. However, I'm all for Squenix releasing their "lesser" games on the service, like Soul Blazer. Actraiser is the shiznit! :)

By Mr. Cheez
